Makovecz Centre and Archives officially launched

In Government decree 2022/2015, the Government of Hungary declared that this Centre should serve the living intellect of Imre Makovecz. To implement the underlying functions, the Government partnered with the Hungarian Academy of Arts that signed a contract with the Imre Makovecz Foundation on operating the Centre.

The Budapest-based Centre and Archives named after the late Kossuth and Ybl Miklós-prize winner architect was inaugurated by Hungarian prime minister Viktor Orban. In his address, he pointed out that Imre Makovecz’s oeuvre is the basis of the spirit that Makovecz found in the deepest layers of Hungary’s national culture and presented to us in the purest form. “We only have one task: to build on, take care of and research this outstanding heritage” said the prime minster.

On behalf of the family, Pál Makovecz, the late architect son and Chairman of the Imre Makovecz Foundation’s Board addressed attendees. Additional speeches were delivered by Chairman György Vashegyi and Honorary Chairman György Fekete of the Hungarian Academy of Arts.

Further details of Viktor Orbán’s speech are available at: Opening speech
