Holy Mary Chapel at Lake Gébárti inaugurated

On Assumption Day, 15 August, the Holy Mary Chapel by Lake Gébárti in Zalaegerszeg was inaugurated. The inauguration ceremony of the newly built chapel was attended by mayor Zoltán Balaicz and Member of Parliament László Vígh who also delivered speeches at the event. Other attendees included György Fekete, honorary chairman of the Hungarian Academy of Arts and Marianne Szabó, the widow of Imre Makovecz. The Holy Mary Chapel was consecrated by László Kiss-Rigó, the bishop of the Szeged-Csanád diocese.

The chapel was designed by MAKONA Kft. using Imre Makovecz’s sketches as the basis of the final design. Construction was enabled by a HUF 100 million subsidy provided through Government Decree 2022/2015 on safeguarding and promoting the oeuvre of Imre Makovecz. Further, special mention is to be made of the relentless efforts of Tibor Fülöp, who oversaw construction and also participated in volunteer work.
