Imre Makovecz was originally assigned to design the building, but he could not prepare the designs before his passing. Finally Ágnes Kravár took care of architectural design work with contributions from Diána Mike. The local government that ordered the building named it after Imre Makovecz in honour of the late architect. Speakers at the inauguration ceremony included mayor Balázs Bús, minister and MP for the district Mihály Varga, and the building was consecrated by bishop Miklós Beer and Géza Battyányi, a pastor working in the Csillaghegy area. A memorial table on the building was also initiated at the ceremony.
