The roof over the 40-metre wide space is the largest wooden structure designed by Makona to date. Their novelty lies in the grid shell structure, the stems of which appeared in Makovecz’s first sketches already. Every 9 metres, a glued wooden support bridges the space from the top of the reinforced concrete pillars. The closest related architectural solution is probably Nervi’s reinforced concrete grid shells.
