Taposiris Magna (Egyiptom), Kopt templom

Egy Izisz-szentély és az azt körülvevő Ptolemaiosz-kori fal romjai között feltárt másfélezer éves kopt templom és kolostor maradványai fölé épül egy új kopt templom és körben cellák a szerzetesek számára. Az új épületek pontosan a korábbi alapfalakra épülnek, hagyományos helyi technológiával. Az Izisz-szentély rekonstrukciója a falba beépített köveinek visszahelyezésével történik, de az eleven istentiszteletet szolgáló új templom irányába az oszlopai fokozatosan fák alakját öltik, végül élő kertben folytatódik.

Taposiris Magna (Egypt), Coptic Church

This new Coptic church is being built above the remains of 1,500 year-old Coptic church and monastery discovered by archaeologists among the ruins of a temple to Isis, which had been surrounded by a wall dating from the Ptolemian age. The new church will be surrounded by monastery cells to be used by monks. All new structures are being constructed directly on top of the earlier foundation walls, and through the use of traditional, local construction techniques. The temple to Isis is being reconstructed by replacing stones taken from the temple into the surrounding walls. At the same time, from the direction of the new church, the temple’s columns gradually take on the form of trees, which in turn flow into a living garden.
