Százhalombatta, Római katolikus templom

A korábbi szocialista iparváros főterére került sok nehézség közepette a polgári kezdeményezésből, egy templomépítő alapítvány támogatásával megépített új templom. A település környékén többszáz koraközépkori halomsírt tártak fel (ez benne van a település nevében is), ezekre emlékeztet a templom hatalmas kupolája, amelyet gyűrű alakban elhelyezkedő, betonból formált fák tartanak. Az imaterem és a paplak kisebb fűvel borított dombokként csatlakoznak a természetes palafedésű nagykupolához. A terület római kori történelmét idézik a halmokat átvágó fehér falak.

Százhalombatta, Roman Catholic Church

With much difficulty the new church was constructed on the main square of Százhalombatta, formed by the communist industrialisation. The costs were covered by a foundation of local citizens that aided the building of the church. The area surrounding the town contains several hundred early-medieval burial mounds, which have been excavated by archaeologists. (Part of the town’s name contains the phrase“hundred mounds” in reference to this.) The church is made up of an enormous cupola supported by a ring of concrete trees, a form that echoes the shape of the burial mounds. The chapel and rectory connect to the main cupola as small, grass-covered hills. The main cupola bears a covering of natural slate. The white walls cutting through the mounds recall the area’s historical connection to Ancient Rome.
