Dobogókő, Ski-lift House

The building houses the machinery for a ski-lift, while also acting as the terminal for the ride up the mountain. Space for a concessions stand and an area for guests to warm themselves were also included. Its surprisingly lifelike appearance is a reflection of Imre Makovecz’s discovery of the way archaic words used to describe construction connect structure with the body parts of living organisms. The “skin” or shell on the ski-lift house-similar to a house constructed in Tokaj-is lent the appearance of hair through the use of slanting layers of planks covering the building’s surface.
